Identifying My 15 Hot Buttons in Church | Musings of a Hardlining Moderate

Identifying My 15 Hot Buttons in Church | Musings of a Hardlining Moderate.

Carson Clark lists in this blog post 15 thinks that still drive him mad in church. I have  the same feeling.

Here they are:

  1. Pragmatic anti-intellectualism.
  2. Unwavering binary schemas.
  3. Ahistorical restorationism.
  4. Preoccupation with sign gifts.
  5. Eschatological obsession.
  6. Militant fundamentalism.
  7. Extreme piety.
  8. Subdued sexism.
  9. Radical biblicism.
  10. The politicization of the Church.
  11. Utilitarian business model practices.
  12. Avoidance of church discipline.
  13. Trite self-help books and sermons.
  14. An utter lack of appreciation for compassion and lament.
  15. Emotional manipulation.

What do you think?

  1. The list reminds me of another possible one with the reasons of why many people actually avoid church altogether. This is number 12 on the list slightly modified 🙂
