‘Intercultural and Interconfesional Studies’ Research Center
26-28 April, 2017, Arad, Romania

INVITATION

The year 2017 marks 500 years from the Protestant Reformation of 1517 – a pivotal moment in the history of Christianity, exercising a great influence upon the Christian churches and their theology and upon culture and society in general. In addition to the memorable solas (sola gratia, sola fide, sola Scriptura, solus Christus) which represented the theological foundation of Protestant Reformation, another hallmark or distinctive feature of Reformation was the emphasis on the public dimension of the Gospel.
In order to mark the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation and considering its long lasting impact upon culture and society in general, we invite you to join us for an International Symposium on Reformation 500 organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of ‘Aurel Vlaicu’ University of Arad in order to explore together the astonishing legacy of the Protestant Reformation in Europe and beyond, and present a paper on one of the following or related topics:

• The impact of Reformation on culture and society
• Scripture, truth and public square
• The Reformation’s contribution to education
• The impact of Reformation on the ordinary life of communities and individuals
• Reformation and democracy – the public dimension of Christian faith
• Reformation, work and economics
• Reformation, scholarship and the university
• Reformation, faith, politics and life
• Reformation, religion and science

It is our hope that the Symposium will represent an opportunity for all of us to discover and learn from the rich heritage of the Reformation, to be inspired by the courage of the reformers, and to deepen our faith and values as we seek to bring our own contribution to common good and human flourishing in our societies.
