Yannaras nu are insa asemenea temeri si vorbeste fara ocolisuri.

Cristian Romocea – Church and State: Religious Nationalism and State Identification in Post-Communist Romania

Continuum has just published the PhD thesis of my friend and colleague Cristian Romocea (we teach together, as visiting lecturers at Evandeoski Teoloski Fakultet Osijek, Croatia). It is titled Church & State: Religious Nationalism and State Identification in Post-Communist Romania. The book (quite pricy, to be fair) may also be ordered from Amazon US.

Here is how the book is described on Continuum website: Continue reading “Cristian Romocea – Church and State: Religious Nationalism and State Identification in Post-Communist Romania”

Together, But Divided – A Journey Through Cyprus

Being in Cyprus at this time, I can see again how painful is the separation between the Greek part of the island and the Turkish occupied part.

If you are interested to understand better the situation in this place, I recommend to you a very well made and well balanced Deutche Welle documentary on this theme. You may find it HERE.

40 Years in the Desert – 3. The Pathology of Transition 3

3.3 Nationalism vs. Globalism

Post-communist societies are quite polarised between traditionalists and modernists. Traditionalists look to the past, to ethnicity and to religion as sources of their identity, while modernists oppose these as outdated and look ahead to modern globalist concepts to define who they are, or rather, who they have to become. In line with their internationalist perspective, communist leaders kept the nationalistic passions of the people under their authority under strict control. Yet this proved to be no solution to the ‘problem of different nationalities’. This was evidenced by the violent explosion of nationalistic passions that led to recent wars in the Balkans and in the former Soviet Union. Continue reading “40 Years in the Desert – 3. From Bondage to the Desert – 1.1 The Religious Character of Communist Ideology – 7

1.1.7 Marxist Eschatology

DefinitionEschatology is the doctrine or understanding of the future and particularly of the end of history (from Gk. eschata – ‘the last things’).

Communism promotes a sort of ‘atheistic millenarianism’ – a promise to establish heaven on earth through human means, with no reference to God.

Marxist ideology is based on the myth of determinism, according to which the historical destiny of humanity is controlled, in a supposedly scientific manner, by a perfect chain of cause and effect. Thus, by knowing this historical mechanism, the new ‘enlightened’ man can participate in the creative transformation of the world and society.

Terorism nationalist ortodox in Ucraina

fire-damage-Ukraine

Laurent Nkunda
