I believe every American Evangelical should read this article. There is much to learn from it about evangelical naivete (if not foolishness) in politics.

Cred ca, daca prin fundamentalistii crestini intelegem reformatorii radicali si urmasii lor, adica cei ce au ales sa interpreteze Biblia literalist, fara sa ia in general in considerare traditia (crestina) de pana la ei, marea ironie este ca acest gen de fundamentalism a fost aproape intotdeauna persecutat (si nu prea stiu cazuri in care sa fi omorat pe cineva din motive crestine – cred ca vanatorii de vrajitoare din America aveau legaturi mai degraba cu traditia puritana reformata decat cu cea anabaptista); pe cand, prin contrast, fundamentalistii islamici, cei care interpreteaza Coranul si Haditele in stil literalist, intotdeauna au persecutat si au fost gata sa ucida pe altii. Dupa mine, acest fapt se poate explica prin faptul ca urmasii reformatorilor radicali au avut drept inspiratie literala Noul Testament, in timp ce islamistii au drept inspiratie literala Coranul si Haditele (care au multe in comun cu un gen de legalism de tip mozaic veterotestamental internationalizat).
