Sister Arousiag Sajonian – Armenia’s “Carrier of Light”

During my first trip to Armenia, as I visited the city of Gumry, I had the privilege to meet Sister Arousiag, a true Mother Theresa of Armenia and we have met many times since then. She is the Mother Superior of the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, and order of the Armenian Catholic Church. Please watch below a little clip about her work in Armenia.

Karine, myself and Sister Arousiag

Less than two years ago, as I spent my birthday in Armenia, with my dear colleague Karine Harutunyan, to my great surprise, Sister Arousiag joined us at Lake Sevan, my favourite place in Armenia. I was really honoured.

???????????????????????????????

There we had a lovely meal, with Sevan trout on the grill, Armenian cheese, herbs, vodka – it is really cold at Sevan in November, and Armenian coffee (don’t dare to call it ‘Turkish coffee’ there – you know why).

We parted ways with hearts full of thanksgiving. I try to see Sister Arousiag every time I visit Armenia. I may be there again in June and hpe to see her again. She is one of my heroues, because of her work with Armenian children, particularly orphans.

May God richly bless her ministry!
