Here are some of the questions that Scot McKnight asks about the latest militarist act of the state of Israel (and my short answers):
- Was that boat, or the flotilla, properly contacted in advance to say the boats must pass inspection? Is this protocol?
They obviously did not. The Israeli never bother to do such things when Palestinians are concerned.
- Were the Israeli personnel who landed on the boat aggressive in behavior?
Anybody who has ever visited Israel and dared to cross the Palestinian border will have no doubt about the innate, disproportionate and intentional aggressiveness of the Tsahal.
- Does Israel recognize the humanitarian issues among Palestinians? What is Israel doing about it? What are Arab countries doing about it?
The Israelis absolutely do not recognise the crisis in Gaza. They feel fully entitled to take revenge on Gazans for electing Hamas. So much for Israeli commitment to democracy. They say they do all that is necessary. Yet, if I would say that I wish they would have for only one month the fate of the Palestinians, they would say I am cursing them. Unfortunately, the Arabs are not doing much about it either. The rhetoric is loud, but the actions are meager.
And the last and toughest one:
- How should a follower of Jesus respond? We can no longer believe Israel’s becoming a landed nation again had anything to do with biblical prophecy, so the simple equation that Israel’s behavior is justified because it’s Israel must be jettisoned. Israel, too, must be brought before the bar of its own Torah. But how do we as followers of Jesus respond?
I will let you respond personally to this one.
