The way we illustrate the breaking up of the initial unity of the ‘One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church’ depends to a large extent on the way we understand this event as being either a tragedy or a celebration of diversity (which makes a mockery of Jesus’ prayer in John 17, ‘that all may be one’).
It also reflects easily the denominational position of the person making the illustration, as will be proven by future graphics in this series.
