A New Kind of Christianity

Brian McLaren, the unofficial spokesperson of the emergent movement is launching tomorrow, 9 February 2009, his new book A New Kind of Christianity. Ten Questions That Are Transforming the Faith. (I presented above the cover of the American version, that I like better than the British one).

Here is a short presentation of the book from the Amazon site:

Groundbreaking author Brian McLaren, voice of the Christian emergent movement and author of the ‘New Kind of Christian’ series, poses ten controversial questions that could lead to a radical redefinition of the Christian faith.

What is the overarching storyline of the Bible?
What is the Gospel?
Why is sexuality such a divisive issue among Christians?
How should followers of Jesus relate to people of other religions?

McLaren gives his own responses to these questions, inviting the reader to a new and generous way of thinking about Christianity.

Those interested can download free from McLaren’s blog two chapters from this book.

First reader report…

Late last night I heard from a good friend who had picked up A New Kind of Christianity in a bookstore a few days early in New York City. He had just finished reading the chapter called “From Violent Tribal God to Christlike God.” He said it felt like a huge step beyond all my previous books, and that this one chapter alone had precipitated a breakthrough in his heart, so he just had to call. As you can imagine, his enthusiasm made my day, and prepared me for today, the book’s official release date. I’m deeply grateful for the experience of gestating content, laboring to wrestle it into words, and now bringing this book to “delivery.” Thanks be to God!

    1. I had a critical look: cherry-picking , boredom…I have seen the same when looking at the conservative church. Don’t see them as real arguments against the naughty emergents.

Inteligent; cult… Duhul Sfint nu prea are multe de facut….

  2. M-am obosit sa iau cartea; n-a fost ieftina.
El crede in univarsalism: “El va fi totul in toti” -citeaza el vechiul verset…
