Christian forced to recant faith in Vietnam – UPDATE

HANOI, Vietnam, January 18 (CDN) — A Vietnamese man violently forced to recant his fledgling Christian faith faces pressure from authorities and clansmen to prove his return to traditional Hmong belief by sacrificing to ancestors next month.

Sung Cua Po, who embraced Christianity in November, received some 70 blows to his head and back after local officials in northwest Vietnam’s Dien Bien Province arrested him on Dec. 1, 2009, according to documents obtained by Compass. His wife, Hang thi Va, was also beaten. They live in Ho Co village.

A friend of mine who works in Vietnam sent me recently some information on this case. here it is:

I found myself talking on the phone with Mr. Po, a new Hmong minority believer in Vietnam’s remote northwest mountainous region. He was about to taken by police in moments to a “session” designed to force him to recant. Hours later I was informed that immense social and family pressure had been applied. It was liberally augmented by police threats of death by beating, and the seizure of all his property, which would leave his widowed wife and fatherless children without a roof. “I folded, I signed,” said a sober Mr. Po on the phone with his wife sobbing in the background. Light shines. A shadow falls. But the darkness will not overcome it. We will continue to advocate for Mr. Po and many others like him.

Let us pray for Po and others like him who are persecuted for their faith by the oppressive communist regime in Vietnam. And let us not be fooled by their attempt to cosmetise their image in the free world. Communists don;t believe in freedom.

Cand e vorba respectarea drepturilor omului, toti tac malc.
Daca e vorba de bani sar toti la gramada.
