The debate in the US around the so-called ‘abortion reduction bill, more precisely the Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion, and Supporting Parents Act (H.R. 3312, referred to as the Ryan-DeLauro Bill), has the potential of inflamating again the two ‘armies’ involved in the ‘American culture war’, leading to the same fierce (and false) accusations, lies and verbal violence, on both sides.
The Associated Baptist Press publishes HERE an opinion text written by David Gushee, Joel Hunter and Ronald Sider. The article represents a passionate plea for civility and truth in this new potentially divisive debate.
One this is clear for me. Both Evangelicals for Social Action and the Religious Right desire the same thing: the drastic and progressive reduction of ebortions in America. Even if the right denies this, both groups are pro-life. The difference is one of tactics. But, I suggest, the common goal should motivate both parts to cooperate in what they agree on and agree to disagree, with civility in the others.
Is this at all possible in America. Personally, I doubt about it there, as much as I doubt this is at al possible in Romania.
May Gaod have mercy on this troublem world!
