Evangelical Seminary in Osijek – New Masters Degree in Counseling

Osijek, Croatia 1 Sept 2011.

Dear all,

We are happy to inform you that Visoko evanđeosko teološko učilište in Osijek is launching the new graduate (MA) studies in Christian Counseling (120 ECTS), during the last week of October 2011.

The program focuses on studying Christian approaches to counseling and related areas.

The program will be twofold, providing students theoretical and practical knowledge and skills. The general and applied education framework will prepare applicants for active participation and serving their churches and the wider community.

During the first year, the studies will focus on areas such as capacities evaluation, multicultural counseling, legal and ethical issues, healing and medical intervention theories, psychopathology, basic concepts of Christian spirituality and psychotherapy, and professional development. Students will also be offered a significant number of electives.

To be able to choose one of the four areas of specialization offered within the program, the students will be obliged to successfully pass the subjects within the listed areas. The four areas of specialization are: Marriage and Family, Children and Adolescents, Addictions, and Counseling in the Church Environment. During the period of specialization, students will be expected to integrate their previous knowledge and use it in practice.

The studies end with writing a diploma thesis.

Entry requirements:

• Applicants must have a BA degree in a social and/or humanistic area of study
• A total of two thousand hours paid or volunteer work with people. This includes different church activities (such as Sunday school teaching for children, rehabilitation activities, participation in church summer camps, etc.) as well as participation in workshops, support groups, and similar activities.
• Having in mind differences in candidates’ education and experience, some might be asked to pass preparatory exams within the areas of psychology and/or sociology, and/or human development, development of personality, marriage and family, gender, Christian worldview, biblical ethics or other subject areas. This may take up to a year.
• A TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent English language test, having in mind that the studies, as well as the materials and literature are in English.

Applicants who are already professionally active within the area of counseling may upgrade their knowledge and skills by applying directly to one of the offered areas of specialization.

The studies offer limited number of scholarships.
