1.1.2 Marxist Opposition to Religion
Marx wrote: ‘Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions’.
We should not be surprised at the violently anti-religious attitude of communist regimes. Since communism is quasi-religious at its roots, it perceives Christianity (or any other religion for that matter) as a serious competitor for the souls of people, and tries to annihilate and suppress it by force.
In spite of the fierce and violent opposition of all communist regimes to religious communities, they have never been successful in their efforts. This is proven by the fact that the church survives (and in some cases, though not in all, is thriving) in all former communist countries.
There is indeed reason for hope, through the grace of God, for the church in countries that are still under communist control. Besides this, the Lord Jesus Christ himself promised us: ‘I will build my Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it’ (Matt. 16:18).

Cartea a fost apreciata ca fiind chiar mai buna ca prima.
N-a fost loc pentru intrebari din sala (am incercat sa evitam situatiile jenanta care apar in asemenaa situatii.
Cartea se merita citita.

pleacand de la teza lui marx comunismul nu avea cum sa castige batalia cu religia. recent am recitit citeva fragmente din lenin despre revolutie, si in ciuda argumentelor captivante, iti dai seama daca nu aluneci pe panta logicii lui, ca argumentele aduse de el nu sunt convingatoare, din contra.
